History

The St. John of God Sisters began teaching in Owning on January 7th 1909 in an old building known locally as  “The Club” (in later years it was used as a place to play billiards).

The present school was built in 1914 with the addition of toilets in the 1960’s. Later modifications to the school include a pre-fabricated classroom added in 2002 and a new building added in 2012 including a staff room, a hall, toilets, a sensory room and additional classrooms which are use by the learning support teachers.

The St. John of God order departed Owning in 1985 leaving the convent and property to the Sue Ryder Foundation to be developed as housing for senior citizens.
